Could it be physocephala rufipes or Conops quadrifasciata

Afternoon Mal,
Yes, a so-called Thick-headed Fly ( no idea who names them!), Conopidae family. As for species, try Conops flavipes as a possibility.

Conops flavipes female.
I got two pics of one yesterday, first time I've managed to get the female! It was quick though.
