| | | Unidentified Grasshopper I've photographed quite a few grasshoppers lately but am having trouble identifying them all with any confidence. Could someone let me know which species this one is please?
Many thanks,

| | | Re: Unidentified Grasshopper Beautiful shot Matt! These nymphs can be tricky, but this one is a Field Grasshopper - Chorthippus brunneus.

| | | Re: Unidentified Grasshopper thanks both. Guy, out of interest, how do you know this one is a nymph? Is it the short wings?

Matt | Yes, short wings are the giveaway. Other than the female Meadow Grasshopper adult grasshoppers are fully winged. Smaller nymphs are very similar between the species so can be very tricky to identify, but this one is quite well developed and it's starting to show some of the distinctive features of this species.
