Found these guys on some Cow Parsley. Approx 6-7mm? Larger than the normal black ant.

Evening Seb,

It's a Myrmica sp., but to get to species you need much closer views of the antennae I'm afraid!

Thanks Jason, Other than Wood Ants I have never seen ants as big as these guys!

Been looking through Antweb, apparently their are 7 Myrmica species in the Uk, 5 I ruled out quite easily. Out of the remaining two, the best comparison was Myrmica ruginodis
