Hi, can anyone confirm that this is Sphaerophoria scripta? I'm sure it is as the habitat is wrong for S. interrupta (arable farmland). 
Also, I'm not sure about this one. I thought it might also be S. scripta but the shape is wrong (though it may be the camera angle)  
They were both near Basingstoke on monday if that helps!

Evening Jo,
In general the Sphaerophoria spp. are a difficult group - only the male S. scripta can be done from photos/identified in the field ( wings stop before tip of abdomen). Here this appears to be the case, only I can't see the eyes to be certain of sex! Probably best left as Sphaerophoria sp., and the other 15 in the Genus require microscopic views of the male genitalia - girls are therefor unidentifiable, to the best of my knowledge.
The second, being female, is subsequently unidentifiable being another Sphaerophoria sp.. Sorry!

Thanks again Jason. I had wondered if the second one was a girl. Sphaerophoria sp is good enough for me!
