I came home to find this huge grasshopper in my outhouse.    . 
Overall length of body and wings: 7.6 cm.
Length of body: 4.2 cm.
Length of ovipositor: 1.7 cm.
Length of antennae (at least): 8.0 cm.
I haven't been able identify it, yet. It's the length of the antennae that aren't in any of my books.
Can anyone help, please?

Afternoon Ron,
It looks like the long-winged form of Roesel's Bush-cricket. These ones occur in years with hot summers, and go on to colonise new areas locally.
How sure are you of the 40mm length? I assume it was including those long wings!

Yes this is the Macropterous form of Rosel's Bush Cricket Metrioptera roeselii f. diluta.
I think you may have over estimated the size as these are smaller than 4cm. Closer to 2.5cm. |

I did say it was huge! In the picture below, the part of the bag it is on is 17 cm long. 
I did try and measure it accurately; it was very obliging and posed nicely for me.
