I think it's a male Emerald Damselfly.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Which Damselfly, please? Hi Jason,
Thanks very much for that!
That was what I suspected it might be, having seen one at Thursley Common recently.
There were a few dragonflies around Woodwalton Fen tonight, but none ever settled or even gave me a close enough look to ID them. |

Pete - do you like near to Woodwalton Fen? I live in Peterborough and have done quite a bit of volunteer work there, it is a lovely site! |

| | | Re: Which Damselfly, please? I looked on NBN for Odonata species for the 1k square where Woodwalton Fen is and both Lestes sponsa (Emerald) and dryas (Scarce Emerald) are listed.
I can't tell from this photo which of the two it is as we are not looking at the diagnostic appendages |

Unfortunately I don't have any other photos that might show the diagnostic appendages (I was limited in how I took the photo, as the damselfly was on a reed hanging over the edge of a ditch in the fen). |

I work in Huntingdon during the week (and go back to South Beds at weekends). I've been to Woodwalton Fen twice now (first time was on Thursday) and think it's excellent - I plan on visiting it a lot more. I know its good for moths too, a subject I'm getting increasingly interested in.
You and the other volunteers are obviously doing a great job! |
