The first is a Longhorn Beetle, Rutpela maculata and then Cicadella viridis, Field Grasshopper, Meadow Grasshopper, A bee with a Hoverfly in the background ( any other images?) and three images of the Hoverfly Volucella pellucens.
Take care, Jason

I've learned a longhorn!
Sarah
- just a note about Roesel's Bush-cricket versus the Meadow Grasshopper -
Bush-crickets have much longer antennae than grasshoppers and a detail you can rely on for a visual recognition is the saddle-shaped plate just behind the head over the back of the insect called the pronotum. In Roesel's Bush-cricket the curve of the saddle below is entirely rimmed with yellow. The easiest way of all to confirm the distinction is by song. Roesel's has a very distinctive unbroken churr unlike the pulsing rattle of a Meadow Grasshopper. The latter sounds as though he's brandishing a little high speed football rattle. |
