unidentified insect
Can anyone tell me what this is? Spotted on my garage wall this morning in Renfrewshire - at least four inches long.

Its one of the Ichneumon wasps - not sure on the species Im afraid

Afternoon Jed, and welcome to WAB!

It's the Sabre Wasp, Rhyssa persuasoria. Big thing! The long part at the end that is often called a stinger is only present on the female - it's an ovipositor, and used for egg-laying.
