Whats a HET bug

Hi everyone,

I am going on a HET bug ID workshop. Does anyone know what HET stands for? (as I cannot find any reference to it)

I believe it is shorthand for Heteropteran bugs.

Stands for Heteropteran - a member of the Hemiptera-Heteroptera. Bugs, hemiptera are divided into two or three divisions, the Hempitera are the larger animals such as assassin bugs, Miridae, Pentatomidae &c. whereas the Homoptera are the spittle bugs, aphids, mealy bugs, whitefly &c &c.

It's a 2 day workshop at the Sheffield Museum, with a gentleman from the Sorby Natural History Society called Jim Flanagan. Best of all it is free (but I think it is fully booked now). I've just purchased a hand lens and ready to go.

Sorby, like other Natural History Societies, regularly holds identification courses and workshops. So join your local one and learn lots!

Yes I agree, they are well worth the subscription fee (which is minimal by the way), and are a great place to network, get free courses and learn new ID skills.
