| | | Flying earwig? Hi, a few of these appeared at my moth trap last night in Basingstoke and was wondering what they are. I was always of the belief that earwigs had only rudimentary wings and can't fly so is this a relative of the earwig? They were doing a lot of flying and waving their abdomens in the air! Much smaller than an earwig too.
Thanks, Jo

| | | Re: Flying earwig? I think this is the Lesser Earwig (Labia minor). It is associated with dung heaps and often comes to light. Common Earwigs do have fully formed wings, but they rarely seem to use them (lazy things).

| | | Re: Flying earwig? Thanks, I won't post the dozens of other tiny flying insects that came to the trap! I did get a couple of Harlequin ladybirds though which surprised me.
