Strange social wasp ID
Spotted this wasp in the garden this morning - slightly larger than a common wasp worker but rather strange colouring being very dark. It was entirely uncooperative about letting me get a decent shot
Any ideas on ID ?

I think this is a dark Dolichovespula media, the shots are very good considering how restless these wasps can be!

Dolichovespula media would be correct, the '7' shape on the shoulder is the clue. I have these too, and they visit my Callistemon!
