| | | Re: Hoverfly and ?wasp for ID please I think the hoverfly is Episyrphus balteatus too.
The sawfly could be the iris sawfly Rhadinoceraea micans.

| | | Re: Hoverfly and ?wasp for ID please The 'wasp' appears to lack a narrow wasp like waist so I'm thinking it is probably a fly and quite possibly a Sawfly. The Solomon's Seal sawfly springs to mind although it could be a bit late for them now.
I think a fly expert is required to take this specimen any further. |

| | | Re: Hoverfly and ?wasp for ID please Yes, it is very likely Iris sawfly - it was near my pond, and last year I had sawfly larvae on the iris leaves. Must watch out again! Thanks both!

| | | Re: Hoverfly and ?wasp for ID please My garden is absolutely brimming with E.balteatus at the moment! I see something move and look - E.balteatus ... something else flits by - I spot it as it lands - E.balteatus again ... and so on! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
