| | | Re: Volucellas? Hi Hedera
I'd say it was Myathropa florea.
Cheers ,Jason. |

| | | Re: Volucellas? Afternoon Hed,
It is a Hoverfly, but actually from the Eristalis genus I feel - not sure on species.
Take care, Jason

| | | Re: Volucellas? Excellent shot, Hed! It appears to rather Eristalis-like, but these Eristalini species are too similar for me! |

| | | Re: Volucellas? Funny, I've had an Eristalis marked-up as Myathropa florea for about three months this year! Similar abdominal markings...
I've come to the conclusion that both these Eristalinae members can be seperated ( when it comes to photos - specimens are easier) by the wing veins R1 and R2+3 ( unless Syrphid's are named differently!); If they join and then go to the margin then it's Eristalis, but if they go seperately to the leading-edge it's Myathropa - at least in an occasion where these two appear similar |

| | | Re: Volucellas? ...sorry, forget the above method of venation - it doesn't seem to work. I still say Eristalis sp., though. |
