| | | Eggs? and some tiny insects Took these images yesterday and thought to post them here to get some background information.
I noticed these protrusions on many leaves.
Link to my website image here.
This is a macro one of the 'eggs' which revealed a couple of insects around it. The egg size was about 2mm dia.

Can anyone please tell me what I have seen?

| | | Re: Eggs? and some tiny insects Morning Peter,
The first makes me think of a previous WAB thread, where it was suggested the leaves were reacting against a parasite or something - not sure!
It may just be a gall, like the second surely is. The insects around it are the nymphs of a Barkfly, an Ectopsocus sp. I believe.
Take care, Jason |

Thanks for your information . The galls then will have been initiated by a sawfly then? I am amazed you even attempted to ID the Barkfly nymph. All these items are so small.

| | | Re: Eggs? and some tiny insects I have quite an interest in Psocopterans (their Order). In hindsight they may be from the Trichopsocus genus, on account of the orange marking on top of the head... |

Can anyone please tell me what I have seen? | Belated reply ('cos I've been searching posts about Barkflies). Take that this is Field Maple, in which case the galls are caused by mites Aceria macrochelus. |
