| | | Re: Spider with red on back? Morning Graham, and welcome to WAB!
You've addded the unidentified spider to WAB's Gallery, which means it'll be turned-down as it isn't named correctly. When you see this next, upload it here to WAB's Image Archive which doesn't have quality requirements, and is where ID-request images go. Well done for working out how to upload in the first place, though!
As for the spider, can you tell us more about it - which part of the UK this was in, habitat, body length not including legs, etc.? It all helps.
Take care, Jason |

A Redback? or a Red-spotted Antmimic? |

Ok I will try again the body was about the size of a 5p not inc the legs it was on the path in the back garden (Neath South Wales UK) other than that I cant be much more help as I was in a rush to go out at the time.Shame as I didnt have a chance to get my camira so had to just take a quick snap of it with my phone.the red strip was runing right to left on the back and not up and down if that helps.

| | | Re: Spider with red on back? Well done, Graham!
Now, that red bit appears to be slightly over to the left of the join between the cephalthorax ( head and thorax, as one part) and the abdomen, actually a little of the femora even - making it pretty asymetrical for a genuine marking. If so, I suggest the red is due to Mites hitching a lift, and the spider just an average brown species underneath them.
That's my opinion, others may have their own! |
