| | | Buff-tailed males or workers please? Both the escallonia and privet are alive with B. terrestris. Hardly any seem to be carrying any pollen and I can't decide if their hind tibia have pollen baskets or not! Could there be lots of males around? All seem to have tibia that are flattened to an extent, and close-up there seem to be specks of pollen in the hairs, but not much. Should the difference between males and workers be obvious 'in the field' and if so what am I missing please?! |

| | | Re: Buff-tailed males or workers please? Males are usually bigger and bulkier than workers, have relatively longer antennae and nice "buff" tails, the majority of workers have white tails with a faint ginger top edge.
I'd say your pics were male - worker - male. |
