| | | Can anyone identify this large wasp-like creature? It measures about 1 inches long, maybe 1.5 inches. |

| | | Re: Can anyone identify this large wasp-like creature? Afternoon B, and welcome to WAB!
I think this is a couple of bees, such as Bombus lapidarius at the top with a male mating with her, hanging off her back end. Together they are giving an impression of a big, single insect.
Of course, this can only be an educated guess since details and colours are pretty sparse given the way they are behind a net curtain and in near full-sun leading to silhouetting.
Take care, Jason

Jason, I think your guess is the most probable one, upon closer inspection it appears to be two bees.
Well that had me curious for a little while :P |

| | | Re: Can anyone identify this large wasp-like creature? If I am right the bottom "bee\" is the shadow of the top one. If that is so you have a dead queen wasp hanging from your curatins by it`s jaws. That is how they spend the winter, hanging onto a rough surface with their teeth in a safe and warm place. This one died in the process.
If it is still alive it is a very early new one from this year.
