| | | Bee-like Fly I found this in my garden yesterday. It was about 2 cm long. I don't think I've ever seen any flying insect as eye catching as this in the UK before. Any ideas what it is?
Thanks |

| | | Re: Bee-like Fly While I was double checking my books, Dogghound gave the correct answer.
This is an uncommon fly (first recorded here in the 1940s) which is only found in certain southern locations, although it appears to be gradually expanding it's range.
I think the Hoverfly Recording Scheme would be interested in details of the location. http://www.hoverfly.org.uk/viewforum.php?f=6

| | | Re: Bee-like Fly Thanks everyone. Just done a bit of research and it looks like they are fairly common in London (I live in Tottenham).
It really was stunning though. It almost looked man-made. |

| | | Re: Bee-like Fly I've only seen one so far this year (live in west London suburbs) + normally see quite a few of these. Haven't seen any V. inanis yet- again normally see a few.
Both are pretty handsome hoverflies. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
