| | | Re: Bombus lucorum? No it's not B. lucorum, you can see some yellow hairs at the base of thorax and top of abdomen. It doesn't look like a male B. hortorum either, face looks too rounded and I think I can see a little colour at the top edge of the white on the tail.
Hard to say which cuckoo bee, but at the moment I know there's some older B. vestalis around and a heap of new ones. B. vestalis is very variable too, I have seen groups of them with a little, or a lot of yellow at the top of the white, and in all shapes and sizes too.

| | | Re: Bombus lucorum? Hi - I'm new to trying to identify bees so I wonder if someone could confirm if this bee is B. lucorum - male?? Has definite yellow markings on the face.
There are quite a few of these around today along with small (carder?) bees in my herb garden - the smaller bees seem to go exclusively for the lavender but the bigger bees seem to prefer the marjoram and oregano herbs that are just in flower.
