A couple of hoverfly IDs please!

I cannot figure it out. One was a beast, bigger than most bees for sure, I actually thought it a hornet, before looking at the eyes, anyway, I am pretty sure it's a hoverfly, though I am sure one of you will prove me wrong!

The second is just a 'normal' looking hoverfly I guess, I tried to ID it but I was stumped at the black and white thorax. Again I suppose you guys will prove me wrong!

I hope these pictures are sufficient for an ID!

Afternoon Stefan,

Both male, and are Volucella zonaria and Myathropa florea respectively. I saw both today - the second was easily the most common!

Thanks! I'm glad that I at least got the hoverfly bit right! I had a look at acouple of ID guides and I guessed the male part as well Thanks!
