unusual flying insect
I have seen an enormous wasp/bee shaped insect almost 2inches long ( sorry , not really metric) with bright yellow legs and antennae, body was fat and with dull wasp pattern markings , in honey fawn colours, with a slightly upturned end of body, it also had what I thought was a light coloured long ? ovipositor? . I have kept bees in the past and have never seen any thing so large or noisy before. but unfortunately it had gone before I returned with camera. Any ideas???

Hi Buckle-bugs and Welcome to WAB!

Have you tried Urocerus gigas,the Greater Horntail Sawfly,if not is it fatter looking than that?

Thanks, am new to this but have just been through the insect ID and it was the greater horntail, pretty impressive!!
