Anyone know what this is?

Found this in the greenhouse this morning. Hope the pic uploads, sorry about quality, didn't want to get too close!

It's red and yellow with yellow mouth parts, and about 15mm long.

Any ideas?

Very very blurry, but it just could be Sicus ferrugineus (Diptera; Conopidae)

Thanks for that, I've had a look at pics of sicus ferrugineus, looks a bit like it, but the thorax is much thicker. Could just be a fat one!!

It's Volucella, can't tell which though.

If it has a red tail end with black body it would be Volucella bombylans var. bombylans

That was my first thought,from the colour I thought V.inanis or zonaria,but I'm struggling to tell for sure.

That entered my head too, but there was a mention of red (and yellow -face or body?).

If the colouring on the thorax is as it looks it would be one of those two.

Looks like V. zonaria to me, with the red = chestnut.

A few days old, but I just came across this in Google so thought I'd reply (thought I already had!) - it's Volucella zonaria.

What part of the UK was this photographed in?
