ID if poss for smart-looking fly with polka dot eyes

I had to take a couple of pictures of this on the window today, before rescuing it. The eyes looked really vivid. Help will be much appreciated.

It's a horsefly in family Tabanidae, looks like Chrysops relictus. I had that last year, be careful as they are keen to get your blood!

When I googled Chrysops relictus a previous WAB thread came up about a fly with psychedilec eyes in Geoff F's garden >

Fly with psychedelic eyes but is it Chrysops relictus

and I noticed that in the shot with flash my fly's eyes showed up as psychedelic, but not in the natural light, and I wondered if anyone knew what makes them seem thus?
