1 I think is 1 of the colour forms of Volucella bombylans

No. 2 looks a bit like one of the Dolichopus species to me. But these are a rather specialised field so I would prefer to hand over to an expert! |

Evening Peter,
Yes, the first is Volucella bombylans and likely form bombylans. As Geoff says - the second being a Dolichopodidae member - I forget what seperates the genera though!
