Black-tailed Skimmer?


I presume this is a male Black-tailed Skimmer? I've not seen a male one before, I'm going by the photos in the Gallery.

Whatever it is, there were several along the river Great Ouse by Paxton Pits, Cambs., this evening.

It looks similar to a Black-tailed Skimmer, but note the dark wing bases (BTS lacks these)- it's a male Scarce Chaser; an expnanding species. Nice find!

It's definitely a new species for me, then. I saw several along a half-mile stretch of the riverbank, and they posed quite nicely for photos.
