Flying ants
Just seen flying ants emerging from an ants nest by a grass verge on the main road around here.
First ones seen this year-anyone else seen any?

I noticed a lot of mated queens (wings had gone) on the pavements near my parent's house in west London this evening- first for me this year too!

Are we approaching Swithin's Day? I used to have a theory that that was when Lasius niger erupted into nuptial flight in East London.
