Is this one of the Conopid flies?

Found on the buds of Creeping Thistle on a woodland ride in the New Forest probably only about 5mm in length.

Appologies for the photos - it was breezy.

Hi,

Not a conopid..though there are a few beauties in the New Forest!
It is Tephritid fly. You ID these from the wing patterns and spot arrangements. They have strong fidelities to certain plants on which their larvae develop. Id offer an ID but Im working away at the moment so dont happen to have my keys with me...Im sure you'll forgive me

If you are after conopids, look at flowering plants where there are lots of bees.
