Hi folks,
My first question would be is this a moth? I'm aware that I may have posted this in the wrong place, but I'm really unsure as to what type of flying insect this is. If anyone can ID, that would be brilliant.

i think it is a moth not sure which one though cant see it in my butterfly guide im sure more well informed peep will tell us both lol |

Thanks faz, it does look like a moth, doesn't it.
I did start trawling through UK moths but probably only viewed about 1/2 the moths and gave up.

lol i have not got moth book so cant help just getting in to butterflys at moment |

Hi, I'd go for Syncopacma larseniella but someone more experienced will confirm or reject my i.d. hopefully!

Thanks Jo, I think that my inexperience might have caused me to dismiss this because of the way it held its wings. But I will look for other shots now. Thanks again!

Glad to have helped! I have made that mistake before when looking through photos (on a regular basis  ) and am still learning myself.

Check out the genus on UKMoths, there are two others which are much the same. Syncopacma taeniolella and S. cinctella.
