| | | What kind of fly was this? Hi
I was in the warehouse the other day and there was a fly type creature that kept attacking me. It was about the size of a blue bottle but a brownish colour and looked almost like the usual flies which are everywhere but this one was different. It landed on my shirt so I had a good look at it. The head was very similar to that of a fly but this thing had mandibles instead of that sucker thing. The other major difference between it and a fly was it's wings, rather than sitting flat on it's back they sort of folded up on it's back and overlapped in a similar shape to a pitched roof of a house. Once it started to bite my shirt I waved it off but it kept coming back to me and trying to land on my shirt (a dark blue t shirt).
What was it please? I thought it was trying to either bite me or lay eggs on me or something. My brother who was also there thought that was hilarious especially as it only seemed to go for me! |

| | | Re: What kind of fly was this? Morning ES,
It could have been a Horsefly going by the Bluebottle-like appearance and biting, but a colour drawing would help us.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: What kind of fly was this? Sounds rather like Tabanus autumnalis or similar.
I'm sure some photos to look at would help, much easier than going to the trouble of a drawing. Diptera.info - Photo Albums: Tabanidae

| | | Re: What kind of fly was this? Yes, I agree - but is dependant then on patience and time available! You can spend all day image-matching with your recollection being altered by re-questioning what you saw - and one drawing with a notable point that you don't think is necessarily relevant could potentially save all that | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
