| | | Black tailed skimmer Hello
More pics from today at Clumber park this time of what I believe are black tailed skimmers
The first two I am fairly sure about
They seemed to like landing on the path round the lake.
The final pic shows a pair mating
Whilst I was trying to get closer a pair of dog walkers throw a stick for thier dog causing the pair (of dragonflys not dog walkers)to fly off. Had to chuckle when the dog walkers went away and one said to the other "plenty of wildlife around here".
Any confimation/correction on ID welcome
Cheers
Paul

Reason: clarification of who flys off!

| | | Re: Black tailed skimmer Looks correct to me, can't really see the mating pair very well though.
I saw loads of Black-tailed Skimmers at the fishing lakes behind Whisby garden centre on Monday but no females, will have to go back! Every fishing stand had it's own Skimmer!
I got a few pics too but they were flighty.

| | | Re: Black tailed skimmer Black-tailed Skimmers they indeed are. There's been a massive expansion in their range northwards in the last decade with specimens now being recorded throughout lowland Co.Durham and up into central Northumberland.

A first for me along with the brown hawker patrolling the waters edge. Really getting into dragonflies now. Started tail end of last summer and my wife got me a book for xmas to help id. Looking at making a pond soon to hopfully get some in the garden (I know that may take some time).
