We think that they are beetles nesting in our tree - what are they?
They fly about in the evening as it's getting dark - short, fat and buzz quietly. They seem to be congregating in one of our trees (we don't know what type - husband is off up the garden to get a leaf to see if this site can ID it).
We totally encourage wildlife in our garden including the occaisional hedgehog but have never seen this bug before.
He has got a leaf but now it is dark they have all vanished.
Any ideas.
We live on the Norfolk/Suffolk.Cambs border - and sorry we don't have a camera.

Probably your best bet at getting an identification - I can think of several quite different possibilities...

Jason is right a picture may well help.

However, try looking up Summer Chafer as a possibility
