| | | Hot pink grasshopper! I went to a local nature reserve yesterday and came across 2 hot pink grasshoppers! I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw them! Wanted to post a pic but not sure how to put it in the Gallery.
Are they rare?
Thanks |

| | | Re: Hot pink grasshopper! Hi Sarah
It is not too unusual to get pinkish coloured Grasshoppers, and it is not just limited to only one species.Grasshoppers often have variable colours, even though they may be the same species.Field and Meadow Grasshopper are two that spring to mind for having pinkish variations. But the fact that it is pink does not make it a rare one .

| | | Re: Hot pink grasshopper! Thanks for the reply. I just thought it may have been rare because if you type "hot pink grasshopper" into google, all the pages bring you to a story about an 11 year old finding a pink grasshopper (looks identical to my 2) and they all say "this rare grasshopper"! lol
I'll try to upload a pic soon. |

| | | Re: Hot pink grasshopper! I think possibly 'unusual' is a better term, you certainly see fewer of this colour than the green or brown ones (and I love the pink ones I think they are great). but they aren't rare in the way that a species going extinct is rare they are just a rarer colour form of a common species - does that make sense?! .
(like white cats could be described a rare in comparison to tabby cats) |

EDIT: found how to upload it, but it says it exceeds the file size.

| | | Re: Hot pink grasshopper! Sorry Sarah but we don't allow external images on WAB. You'll need to upload it to the image library. As long as the file size is below 1 Mb it should be fine.

| | | Re: Hot pink grasshopper! The file straight from your camera will be too large. The image library only accepts files that are below 1 megabyte in size. If you resize the image to be no more than 1000 pixels on the longest side and then save it as a jpeg at about 70% quality (which will be absolutely fine for web use) then it will definitely be below 1Mb.
Make sure you keep a safe copy of the original image before resizing!
