Can anybody tell me what this is please.
I know very little about insects, and have never seen anything like it before.
Please excuse my "gardeners hands".

Funny little things, aren't they! It's called the Woolly Aphid - scientifically Erisoma lanigerum I believe.

Well, I've seen them twice this year, and once - my first time - last year. I suppose it depends on where you are in the UK.

You may expect to see it more if you have Mountain Ash, Apple, Cottoneaster or Hawthorn around.
