It could be either Muscidae or Anthomyiidae - likely the latter, but the group isn't one I'm into so I'll stand aside. John is good with these - and I suspect Laurence will have some ideas too.

| | | Re: Fly ID Certainly looks like an anthomyiid - see on pic 2 how the thorax is much deeper than the abdomen. I've only been studying this family for 3 months so I'm hardly an expert, but one thing I've realised is that many species/genera look virtually identical. I've been able to id all my specimens because the genitalia is usually distinctive for each species. Unfortunately we cannot see the aristal hairs - plumose in Hylemya and Hydrophoria - I suspect this shot may depict something in this group but obviously cannot be certain. Even the experts on diptera.info baulk at bristle work for anthos from photos.
