| | | lacewing eggs? (sorry no photo).
Does anyone know what those small hard egg-type things are that appear this time of year? they have bits of silk attached. Rather like giant brown caterpillar eggs? I thought may be lacewing of some kind. I kept some but they didn't hatch.
Thanks
Also, I'm convinced I was stung / bit by something very similar to a cranefly when I rescued it from my house, but can't find any reference to it. |

If the ova were on a long thin thread suspended above the leaves then they are almost certainly those of a Lacewing.
Craneflies don't bite or sting. It's more likely you have been bitten by one of the Horseflies. Bid a large lump develope around the place of the bite that lasted for a day or so? If so that's a Horsefly.

thanks, but these egg-things aren't on stalks as such, but some do have 'silk' attached. they just appear everywhere- don't seem to be 'placed' at all.
also, the fly i caught was definitely not a horse fly. it was like a cranefly, may be fatter.
