| | | Is this a leafcutter bee?
One of a pair flying in and out of a largish gap in a garden seat frame. I tried to see into the gap but couldn't see much. |

| | | Re: Is this a leafcutter bee? Afternoon Lori,
Yes, correct - Megachilidae family. Note the pollen-collecting hairs on the underside ( AKA the ventral surface) of the abdomen.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Is this a leafcutter bee? Can I ask how megachile is pronounced? Is it chile as in Chile, or kyle or even kylie?
This one sat next to me on the bench - so Hedera's ruse of waiting for things to arrive worked I will be watching for the leaf carrying now. |

| | | Re: Is this a leafcutter bee? Megachile - I pronounce it Mega-shy-all. No idea if that's right though! |

| | | Re: Is this a leafcutter bee? I hadn't thought of that one! I have just found this - a doc called 'Bee Pronounciation' (!) says
Megachile /meg-uh-KILE-e/
it looks like it might be Kylie after all | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
