| | | 2 flies, scorpionfly, bug, earwig, and pupa for ID Some from yesterday evening and this morning if anyone can help with IDs:
Meadow Plant Bug (Leptopterna Dolabrata) nymph?
Where the bottom of the buttercup stalk reaches the edge of the image you can also see a globular springtail - unfortunately I didn't notice it until I looked at the photos when I got home.
Pupating larva of some sort, or has it been parasitized?
Approx 9mm, on grass
Forficula auricularia (Common Earwig)?
In a meadow buttercup
Panorpa communis (Common Scorpionfly) female?
Fly, approx 4mm
Fly, approx 3mm
Thanks

| | | Re: 2 flies, scorpionfly, bug, earwig, and pupa for ID Morning Dave,
Yes, the Scorpionfly is female, gravid too by the looks. Do you have a top-down of the penultimate fly, to examine wing-venation? It could be Anthomyiidae or Muscidae, perhaps the former. The last could be a Chloropidae member, but again a top-down to assess overall appearance would be great.
Take care, Jason |

This pic is of a Common
While this pic is of a Lesne's, they lack the wing protrusions. |

Thanks for the confirmation on the Scorpionfly and suggestions for the flies.
Unfortunately I don't have any better photos than those ones - the penultimate one flew off, and my flash batteries ran out after I'd only taken a couple of photos (both very similar) of the last one. Quote:

Thanks for the photos for comparison. It doesn't have the wing protrusions, but is about 13mm long, which, having a quick read about the Lesne's, I think is a bit big for a Lesne's? Also I read that the Lesne's is found more often near the coast, the photo was taken here, so quite far inland. Could it be a Common Earwig nymph?
Thanks

Have you any other photos of the Earwig. I've contacted a local expert and showed them your photo. There is a chance it could be Apterygida media. This is the general distribution of the species (as far as i know)... NBN Gateway - interactive species mapper |

I have a few photos of it, but they are all taken from the same position, and so virtually the same. I can upload the image at its original resolution if this would be helpful?
Looking at that distribution map, it would be quite a way out of its known normal zone if it was Apterygida media.
Cheers
