Bright Yellow/Black Sawfly?
Hi. Just wondered if anyone could confirm whether this is a sawfly? Found it at our local nature reserve (wild meadow) yesterday evening. It looks similar (but not identical) to Rhogogaster picta Very distinctive white face, and yellow under abdomen. Cheers. Jane

It is one of the Tenthredo arcuata complex. Identification is based on an examination shape of the teeth of the female saw. Rhogogaster (=Cytisogaster) picta is a smaller black and green species.

Many thanks Laurence for your comment and information. I've never come across these before. I see that one of their nectar/pollen plants is Heracleum sphondylium (which is what it was on when I saw it).
