ID of insects please!


I am not sure about the identification of these beautiful beasts. The male flew down in a matter of seconds, ready to copulate!! Photographed yesterday in my local Essex Wildlife Trust reserve - Holland Pits.

They are sawflies, but I'll leave the exact ID to one of the specialists in these insects.

Afternoon Spectrum,

As Aesh says, they are Sawflies. Probably a Tenthredo species, but I think John will have a better answer!
