Dragonfly ID please

This beast hurtled past me in the garden and landed in a laburnum tree - where it hung for about four hours.

I think it is a brown hawker. I imagine it is a male despite the white rather than blue spots on its abdomen. Each of my reference books has the same pictures - bit of a cheat and swiz really.

You are correct, it is a male Brown Hawker.

It is a recently emerged one which explains why it doesn't have the blue colour on the spots (it also explains the closed wing posture in the last photo - dragonflies do sometimes close their wings like this, particularly when teneral).
