1 and 2 are both Amber snails. For some unknown reason i'm never confident with these??
1. will be Succinea putris, adults can exceed 12mm and will show a pale body colour.
2. will be Oxylome elegans, adults will be under 12mm and will show a dark body colour. Both will share similar habitat.
Any idea on the size of the 3rd snail? |

| | | Re: Snail ID's I'd estimate about 10mm, for the 3rd snail, Fauna.
Thanks for the Id on the other two. |

| | | Re: Snail ID's I'm still not 100%, will need to see umbilicus because of the size. But i'm sure this is a pale form of Cepaea hortensis. I have had C. hortensis similar to this in a wet habitat near me...assuming your specimen was globular in shape and not flat? |

| | | Re: Snail ID's This will probably be a juvenile/small Cepaea hortensis, they mostly prefer wetter habitats to C. nemoralis.
White lip/Brown lip can be unreliable on juvenile and single specimens. To be more positive (without dissection) with an id of a specimen like yours, you will need to find a few adults in the area first. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
