Wasp (?) for ID
I'm not absolutely sure this is a wasp... but it's my best guess. It was fairly big (about 12-15mm) and acting very strangely. First saw it on the side on my old shed, flying to a spot it would then search under the gutter and ivy, then fly to another spot and do the same thing. Always on the move.

Any ideas? Not great photos I'm afraid. Thanks Jane

Just a suggestion. Possibly a female Ichneumon Wasp looking for a victim on which to lay eggs; or one of the Spider Hunting Wasps also looking for prey to carry to a nest burrow.

Those long legs do resemble a Pompilid. Just out of interest, have a look at Anoplius nigerrimus which is a black species.

One of the Sphecid wasps - not an Ichneumon. Possibly one of the smaller Crossocerus species.
