| | | Re: Damselfly ID Interesting. I would have thought that there was too much blue here for a female Demoiselle. Female common Blue perhaps ?

Need someone to correct or agree with me.

| | | Re: Damselfly ID Sorry meant to say I'm thinking it's the dark form of Variable, wished I'd got a better photo of this. This was taken a couple of weeks ago and I can't seem to find any more at the moment, typical!

| | | Re: Damselfly ID It's a tricky one, but I'd plump for a Female Azure Damselfly. |

| | | Re: Damselfly ID Yeh could be, seen loads of these but this one didn't seem the same, hence I grabbed a quick shot to get an ID. Should've got a direct overhead shot with the abdominal segments 1&2 and the apex of the abdomen. The only probelm is the green form which occurs in 90% of females looks good apart from the colour, if it was blue it would be spot on. The female blue form of the azure shows too much blue in the abdominal segments compared to the photo which I took that the damselfy is near all black with a slight ring of blue if observed from above.

| | | Re: Damselfly ID This is a female Azure.
Damselflies can vary more than is generally realised. The shape of the pronotum is always the best feature to check to identify females (just about visible here), & the abscence of a pale bar between the post ocular spots is another fairly good visible feature.
