ID please?

Hello you clever people!
Please could you identify this thing for me? It was in my yard a few nights ago and was about half again the size of a daddy longlegs and much brawnier. In fact as a DLL phobic I found it quite scary!
I would like to know what it was though if you could help.

It's a Cranefly, in fact the UK's biggest - known as Tipula maxima scientifically. Well done on getting a photograph.

Thank you! I always thought Craneflies were more delicate - this one had hairy knees and hob-nailed boots!

Fascinating website though, I'm really glad I found it, especially as we get some quite weird and wonderful stuff here on the rock in the Irish Sea.
