Help ID Dragonfly


This dragonfly emerged from its larval case yesterday morning in a neighbour's pond.

It is a Southern Hawker, a female.

I am pleased to see this. We had a female Sh egg laying in our pond last summer, so i will now keep my eyes open.

Large Reds and Common Blues have already emerged this year, so I am waiting for these and Common Darters now.

If last year was the first time Southern Hawkers laid eggs in your pond you will have to wait a little longer to see them emerge Martin - the larvae take 2-3 years to mature in Britain.
