| | | Delphacidae - Eurysa lineata? Hi,
This was about 3mm long including wings. Taken on 7th June. Is this correct? It looks to have the brown area at the top of the wings.
I only got this 'good' pic, near impossible in the dull conditions.
Janet

You really want Joe or Tristan but in my non-expert opinion the prominence of the keels on the head suggests something like Javesella pellucida.

| | | Re: Delphacidae - Eurysa lineata? Hi Steve,
That was the other one I juggled with, and I agree about the head. The wings of Javesella pellucida are said to be brownish or whitish tinged, but on mine they don't look a lot different to the pics of J. pellucida.
After weighing up everything, I was swayed by the brownish area as stated for Eurysa lineata which J. pellucida doesn't look to have. I can see something brown which resembles at least one of the pics of Eurysa lineata anyway! Quote: |
Macropters are much darker on the scutellum, with a characteristic brown area on the inner angle of the forewings.

| | | Re: Delphacidae - Eurysa lineata? Yep, it's a macropterous J. pellucida (the vertex does indeed give the game away). The brown corner on the forewing is actually just the abdomen showing through, in a patch without the whitish hind wing getting in the way! |

| | | Re: Delphacidae - Eurysa lineata? Evening Janet,
Good to see you back posting! A nice shot given the dull conditions you describe, I don't bother shooting low-down as I know my camera will do that thing where pale colours become white, the screen lags with a low frame-rate and I'll get just 1/20th sec...
I agree with the ID of course, but what a good record Eurysa would have been...
Take care, Jason | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
