A female Sphaerophoria species. It's impossible to be more exact with this family.

Thank you. How do you tell it's a female? First time I've seen this one with such distinctive markings.

From that angle you can't tell - I'm just guessing!

The real way to tell, of course, is that females have a wide gap between the eyes, which isn't visible from that angle. The colouration and width/depth of body suggest a female.

But this isn't guaranteed so someone else may see it differently.
