Hello, bottom one could be a Mesembrina Meridiana, because of the yellow/orange wing base. Found mainly around woods and hedgrows, where it spends much of its time basking on the ground or in vegetation and especially on tree trunks, according to my insect book anyway Does that sound about right?

Evening David,

No need to aplogise! That's what WAB's for...

The first is a Dung Fly Scathophaga sp., and the second is the Noon-day Fly, Mesembrina meridiana.
