Fly for ID
Found this thing using its legs as feelers. I remember reading about this somewhere many years ago but had long since forgotten all about it. Until now...

Anyone able to help with an ID for this beast. c. 7-8mm NE Scotland.

Not my subject (like most species) but I do wonder about one of the Clear Wing Moths (Sesiidae family).

If you don't get a more enlightened reply here, it might be worth asking again in the moth forum.

It's a Non-biting Midge from the Chironomidae family. I don't think it's from the Chironominae sub., though.

It was really quite odd the way it was using its front legs - not sure if it was displaying or checking surroundings - I'm not inclined to think the former.
