| | | found this spider in bananas...... Could someone please identify this spider for me. It was sitting in the bunch of bananas i brought yesterday. Is it a local or from somewhere else?? If not a local spider then what do i do with it??

Thanks for the photo. I'd say it's an Amaurobius sp. ( that's the scientific name, with Sp. meaning 'A species of' - you'd need a close-up image of her underside to see the 'epigyne' to get to a fully-resolved identification), to which we have a few in the UK.
As far as I can see it's a native ( assuming you're in the UK!)

Hi, thanks for getting back to me so fast
This is the underside.
I live on the Isle of Lewis, and while i have seen many spiders similar to this it was the fact it was in the bananas that had me wondering....
I'm stupidly afraid of spiders myself and so i don't really get up close to others i've seen to compare them, even being so close to this through the jar is hard  pathetic i know!!
Should i just release this out in the garden? |
